Hopefully you read my last post in this series. To go back to the start, go here.

directions of travel

Sometimes we just need to go back to the future because we think Agile frameworks suck. So we

  • eliminate the notion of Product Backlog Items as we'll just run tight feedback cycles with real customers and develop what customers want next based on their feedback immediately - perhaps using Flow or XP or no framework at all.

  • would think more like John Seddon, eliminating failure demand, building less functionality, functionality that is actually used

  • would think more like John Seddon, eliminating failure demand, building less functionality, functionality that is actually used

  • but for this, we need to be able to follow principles, principles from the Agile Manifesto without any rules to use as guide-rails.

adding more goodness

Bringing it all together, I believe we should not have to choose between broad & deep and deep and narrow. I believe we can have broad & deep, by using a holding pattern such as Nexus (without Scrum Studio), SAFe, Scrum @ Scale or Spotify/ING copy paste & adapt. Then use Nexus & Scrum Studio or Large Scale Scrum (LeSS) for deep & narrow. Or go back to the future and keep it small.
